Meta announces CapCut-like video editing app called Edits

Meta announced its upcoming new video editing app called Edits after President Donald Trump restored TikTok in the US.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared details regarding the upcoming app on Threads. At the time of writing, the Edits app is only available on the Apple App Store.

The App Store will let everyone download the app on March 13, 2025, but iOS users may pre-order the app today.

On January 20, 2025, Mosseri said, “Today, we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone.”

Its App Store page lists the following features:

  • Export videos with no watermark and share them on any platform.
  • Keep track of all your drafts and videos.
  • Capture high-quality clips up to 10 minutes long and start editing right away.
  • Easily share to Instagram in 1080p.
  • Track how your reels are performing with a live insights dashboard.
  • Get a breakdown of engagement for followers and non-followers.
  • Understand the factors that affect your reel’s chances of getting recommended, such as skip rate.
  • Plan your next videos based on what’s working for your audience.

Also, it specifies the following video editing features:

  • Edit videos with a single-frame precision.
  • Get the look you want with camera settings for resolution, framerate, and dynamic range, plus upgraded flash and zoom controls.
  • Bring images to life with AI animation.
  • Change up your background with a green screen or add a video overlay.
  • Choose from a variety of fonts, sounds, voice effects, filters, stickers, and more.
  • Enhance audio to make voices clearer and move background noise.
  • Generate captions automatically and customize how they appear in your video.

Soon, IG users and other social media influencers may have a new way to prep their content to go viral.

TikTok users could use that as an alternative to their favorite video editor CapCut.

Coincidentally, Trump recently promised to undo the TikTok ban.

Instagram has been going through numerous changes. Some, like the new rectangular grid, received mixed reactions.
