MANILA, Philippines — A South Korean passenger vessel, which encountered a technical glitch, was rescued by the Philippine Navy off Ilocos Norte’s Burgos town.

The Navy on Friday said it deployed its BRP Nestor Reinoso (PC380) to respond to an emergency alert issued by the South Korean boat Udosarang 1, which also carries nine Filipino crew.

The passenger vessel was navigating off the town’s landmass at about 9 a.m. Wednesday when it had a “mechanical  malfunction.”

The Navy personnel immediately responded to the situation.

“This derangement restricted its ability to maneuver, prompting this Command to take immediate action,” the Naval Forces Northern Luzon said in a statement.

After establishing contact with the vessel, PC380 escorted the foreign vessel to Sual, Pangasinan, where it could safely fix its mechanical malfunction.

The crew members of the rescued boat are all safe, the Navy said.
