South Korea will be the location for the world’s largest AI data center to lead AI innovation worldwide.

The project’s initial value was over $10 billion and it can grow to $35 billion.

In 2028, the center will boast a 3-gigawatt capacity, making it the largest data facility in the world.

“This is more than just a technological milestone; it’s a strategic leap forward for Korea’s global technological leadership,” co-founder Dr. Amin Badr-El-Din said.

South Korea’s plan to become a global tech leader

The monumental data center is located in the Jeollanam-do province.

Fir Hills, a division of the California-based Stock Farm Road, Inc. (SFR), will start construction in winter 2025.

It was co-founded by LG hair Brian Koo and Dr. Amin Badr-El-Din, the founder and CEO of BADR Investments.

AI News says the facility will meet the sophisticated requirements of next-generation artificial intelligence, such as:

  • Advanced cooling infrastructure
  • Cutting-edge fiber bandwidth for regional and global connectivity
  • Capability to manage significant and sudden energy load variations

SFR’s Energy-to-Intelligence (e2i²) will transform energy infrastructure into platforms for advanced AI innovations.

Moreover, it will have major economic benefits for Jeollanam-do and beyond.

The data center will create over 10,000 jobs for various sectors like energy supply and storage (ESS), renewable energy production, and equipment manufacturing.

Co-founder Brian Koo said:

“Having witnessed firsthand the immense technological capabilities of large Asian enterprises, I recognize the potential of this project to elevate Korea and the region to a new level of technological advancement and economic prosperity.”
