MANILA, Philippines — Ninety-eight Chinese nationals, who were caught working for illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) companies, were deported on Tuesday evening, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

In a report on Wednesday, BI said the Chinese nationals boarded a Philippine Airlines chartered flight to Xi’an, China, in line with its ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal Pogos nationwide.

Of the 98, 91 Chinese were part of the 450 individuals apprehended in a commercial building in Parañaque City on January 8, while the other seven were from the agency’s detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig.

The Chinese Embassy arranged their flight in line with their efforts “to expedite the removal of foreign nationals involved in illegal Pogo activities,” the BI disclosed.

In total, the agency said it has so far collared 500 foreign nationals in separate operations in Parañaque, Cavite, and Pasay City in January.

Of these, a total of 226 have already been deported, it added.
