MANILA, Philippines — The suspects in the abduction of a 14-year-old Chinese national have also been linked to other kidnapping cases, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
The Chinese teen had been missing since Feb. 20 and was found along Macapagal Boulevard in Parañaque City on Tuesday evening.
“Our suspects are part of groups we have been pursuing for a long time because they have been involved in previous kidnappings. In this case, it was Chinese targeting Chinese,” PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said in a Radyo 630 interview on Thursday.
Remulla said in a Palace briefing on Wednesday that the main suspect was also the suspect in the shooting of a Chinese national after a heated argument in a Makati City restaurant last October.
Although Remulla did not name the suspect, the Southern Police District previously identified the suspect as Wang Dan Yu, also known as Bao Long.
“Apart from his involvement in the shooting, the AKG (Anti-Kidnapping Group) is looking at other cases where the pattern is similar, as well as the background of those kidnapped and the manner of execution,” Fajardo explained.
“The root of this really is those formerly involved with Pogos (Philippine offshore gaming operator). That is what is being looked into in this case because based on the investigation of the Anti-Kidnapping Group, the family of the child used to be involved with Pogo,” Fajardo said.
The PNP previously said the father of the abducted Chinese teen was formerly involved with the Pogo industry.
