After scoring Best in National Costume in the auxiliary competition of Reina Hispanoamericana 2025, Philippine bet Dia Mate shared how she has been training rigorously — from perfecting her “Pasarela” or the Runway Walk to acing her Q&A skills — all in the hope of clinching the crown on Sunday, Feb. 9 (Feb. 10 in Manila).
Recently appearing on the “Mic Drop” podcast, Mate shared some of her preparations for the Bolivia-based pageant, including being trained by Miss Grand Philippines 2024 CJ Opiaza.
“I have been preparing since July. I’ve been taking Spanish lessons. I’ve been training with CJ, acing Q&A, all of my trainers; they are all my mamas. They have been all helping me prepare for this moment. It’s been a long time coming. Lots of photoshoots, wala na akong tulog (I barely sleep),” she said.
The Caviten̈a singer scored an early victory after she bagged the “Mejor Traje Tipico” (Best in National Costume) in the auxiliary competition last Feb. 2 (Feb. 3 in Manila).
Mate also made her way to the Top 5 of the “Miss Turismo” (Miss Tourism) contest, the first auxiliary competition held in the Latin-dominated international beauty pageant.
With only three days left before the final coronation, Mate has been delighting her Instagram followers with her pageant photoshoot, as she described representing the Philippines as “the greatest privilege.”
In one of her latest posts, Mate dazzled in a magenta-colored Filipiniana with intricate gold embroidery.

Mate is aiming to bring the Philippines’ second Reina Hispanoamericana victory after that of Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez in 2017.
