Broadcast journalist Gretchen Ho is set to headline her first solo news program, “Morning Matters,” to mark a milestone in her career.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Feb. 4, Ho described the opportunity as a “huge step” in her journey as a journalist, as she promised to blend politics, sports, and entertainment insights into her program.

“This is the first time that I’ll be anchoring a solo show. Hard news, so it’s a huge step for me. Talagang napakalaking tiwala nila [sakin] na [aking] pinapahalagahan (They really have a lot of trust in me, which I appreciate),” she said.

“I’m excited to interview candidates in the upcoming elections and also to talk to sports and entertainment people. I guess I have a unique intersection because of where I come from, and now I got the chance to put them on one platform,” she added.

Ho emphasized that she will approach the show with an “open mind,” as she intends to only ask “straightforward” and “hard-hitting” questions.

When asked whose controversial personalities she wants to have a one-on-one sit-down with, Ho remarked that she wants to focus on those celebrities who decided they want to give politics a run.

“Gusto ko habulin ‘yung mga nagtatago. ‘Yung mga hindi nag-papainterview masiyado. Katulad nila, Lito Lapid, Camille Villar, Philip Salvador. ‘Yung ating mga celebrities na nagiging politiko. Kasi gusto ko maintindihan bakit sila tumakbo,” she stated.

“Coming from the entertainment world, like I said, I’ll have no judgment. I’ll come with an open mind,” she continued. “Gusto ko rin mainterview si Pastor Quiboloy. Pati ‘yung mga batang politiko.”

Ho rose to fame as a volleyball player before transitioning into a media career.

Aside from Ho’s “Morning Matters,” One News also launched “Money Talks” with Cathy Yang and “News and Views” with Angelo and Angela Castro as part of their new morning show lineup.
