Rufa Mae Quinto informed fans of scammers using her name, lamenting how they even used her current situation to fool people into giving money.

The actress-comedian made the warning by showing the conversation of someone she knows with the scammers, through her Instagram Stories on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The scammer introduced himself as Quinto, then proceeded to ask if he could borrow money from the person he was talking to. The scammer even reasoned that he was supposedly crying, that’s why he could not answer the call.

“Mga scammer, ‘wag na kayo sumabay sa panloloko using my name,” Quinto captioned her post.

She also stressed to her followers, “Wala po akong hinihingi kahit kanino. Be ware and aware, guys.”

Quinto faces 14 counts of violation of Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code. This stemmed from her prior endorsement of skincare company Dermacare, which is being linked to an alleged investment scam.

The actress arrived in the Philippines from the United States last Jan. 8, and voluntarily surrendered to the NBI. She was released from NBI custody on Jan. 9 after she posted bail amounting to P1.7 million.

Quinto has maintained that she is innocent, with her legal counsel saying the actress is also a “victim” as the skincare company has yet to pay her endorsement fee.
