Despite his present legal battle in connection with the upcoming Pepsi Paloma movie, TV host-comedian Vic Sotto is arguably one of the most successful entertainment figures in the country whose career has transcended generations and overcame many a controversy.

Sotto attributes this feat to his being grounded and keeping himself in check in order to temper his rising popularity.

“Clean living — it’s as simple as that,” he told reporters in an interview on the sidelines of the launch of a barley juice drink, of which he is an endorser, when asked to reveal the secret to his enduring career.

“Huwag kang [umapak] ng ibang tao. Huwag kang manira. Huwag kang maangas. Stay humble. Humility for me is a very important word. Huwag kang magyayabang. Relax ka lang sa buhay,” he further said.

(Don’t step on other people just to get ahead. Don’t speak ill of others. Don’t be arrogant. Stay humble. Humility for me is a very important word. Don’t be boastful. Just relax in life.)

The veteran TV host-actor admitted that he, too, get upset at times, but he tries to get over it with by having a strong faith in God.

“Hindi naman pwedeng hindi ka maapektuhan. Pagpasa-Diyos mo lang… With God on your side, wala na ang mga stress na ‘yan. Yakang-yaka. Hindi ko pinapansin ‘yan. ‘Yung mga pagsubok, whatever it is, you trust in God, tanggal lahat,” he said.

(It’s impossible not to be affected. Just surrender it to God… With God on your side, all that stress will disappear. You can handle it with ease. I don’t dwell on it. Those challenges, whatever they may be, just trust in God, and everything will be lifted away.)

Sotto recently filed criminal and civil case against film director Darryl Yap after the latter released a sensational movie trailer on the life story of the late sexy star Pepsi Paloma, who in the 1980’s allegedly filed a case against the actor-comedian and two others, but which she eventually withdraw. Several years later, Paloma took her own life. The controversial trailer alleged that Sotto was one of Paloma’s rapists, a claim that he vehemently denied.
