MANILA, Philippines — Two Chinese nationals were arrested for practicing medicine without a license, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) announced.
According to the CIDG report on Wednesday, authorities confiscated numerous boxes of assorted medicines, medical supplies and equipment including an infusion alarm and surgical instrumental, and a laptop used as an ultrasound diagnostic system.
The police also found notebooks where medical procedures were detailed as well as Chinese prescription receipts.
However, the two suspects were unable to present licenses and permits required to supply medical products, operate a medical clinic, or practice medicine in the Philippines.
The two suspects were arrested in an operation on Tuesday afternoon at a condominium complex in Parañaque City.
They face charges of violating Republic Act No. 3720 as amended by RA No. 4224 and RA No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.
“The State values and protects all the lives of the citizenry and it is very alarming to see fake doctors treating patients. Practice of medicine is very crucial and important and must be performed by licensed professionals,” the CIDG said in a statement.
