MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte went to Japan over the weekend for a “private trip,” said the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Monday.
Despite the unofficial nature of her visit, Duterte took the opportunity to meet with various overseas Filipino workers’ (OFW) groups during her stay.
“The Vice President visited Japan over the weekend and visited various OFW groups there during the course of her private trip,” the OVP told reporters through Viber.
“She’s now back here in Manila,” it added.
Duterte’s trip came days before Iglesia ni Cristo’s (INC) “National Rally for Peace” at the Quirino Grandstand on Monday.
OVP has not confirmed whether Duterte will attend the rally but said that she is set to release a statement later in the afternoon.
