Albie Casiño, who introduced his son Roman Andrew to the public in June 2024, opened up about how fatherhood changed his life, saying that being a dad is his “best role.”

The actor was smiling from ear-to-ear as he spoke about his son during an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the “Mga Sampung Utos Kay Josh” premiere night in Quezon City, saying Roman is celebrating his first birthday this year.

“I never thought that I was capable of this kind of love,” he said when asked what he realized about himself as soon as he became a father.

Casiño admitted that he thought he “would never have children,” but being a father brought him an unexplainable joy. “It’s the best feeling.”

“It’s something that I can’t explain, and this comes from someone who thought he would never have kids,” he continued. “But ohmigod, it’s so different. You’re shaping another human and how he’s going to grow up as is going to be because of me. If he’s a bad person, it’s my fault.”

Casiño said that being a father prompted him to turn down certain roles out of respect for his son while citing an unnamed project with filmmaker Gino Santos. He also shared that while he has always been a hard worker, he has to be more mindful of his spending.

“I had to turn down roles that I wanted to do. Iniisip ko na kung makikita niya ‘to (I think of how would he react when he sees this). There was a project with [director] Gino Santos, but then, I had to turn down the role,” he said.

“I feel like I always had that hustle drive. But I have to be mindful of my spending habits. It’s so overwhelming. I have so many fears now that I never thought I would be thinking about before,” he further added.

Balancing act

In the Marius Talampas-helmed film, Casiño stars as one of the onscreen best friends of its lead character Jerald Napoles, to which the former said that it is his first time to dabble in comedy.

“I was shooting this in the middle of ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ so it’s [moving between] serious and comedic. It was my first to do comedy. I knew I was going to do it right away but when I read the script, tawang-tawa ako (I kept on laughing),” he said.

The actor also disclosed that aside from shooting “Can’t Buy Me Love” and the comedy film at the same time, he was in the middle of balancing his responsibilities as a father.

“I was doing ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘Sampung Utos ni Josh’ [at the same time], and after the last day of shooting for this movie, I flew out to the States. It’s just so crazy,” he said. “Now, I’m teaching him to go down from the bed. He likes to crawl around and stuff. He has teeth na. I’m seeing him grow and it’s just so fast.”
