Chinese New Year: Feng shui expert advises beauty queens to be ‘like a snake’

Chinese New Year 2025: What’s in store for Dia Mate, Krishnah Gravidez, and Alexie Mae Brooks in this Year of the Wood Snake? Combined images from Instagram.

Whether or not you practice feng shui, Chinese New Year has always brought with it a sense of vibrancy and entertainment as experts weigh in on how popular personalities, including beauty queens, will fare in the coming year based on their signs.

Filipinos already have a slew of beauty queens to root for in international pageants this early, and the “Year of the Wood Snake” poses several challenges that candidates should prepare for.

“So, basically, because the energy of the snake is really unstable, it can be both ways. It can be nice and smooth, but it can also be challenging in a way,” renowned geomancer Marites Allen said at her Chinese New Year feng shui forecast preview recently.

“The candidate has to be, in her own overall energy, must really be able to ensure that she is going to the competition a hundred percent. She has to be ready,” Allen said.

She said the “superstars” are those born in the Years of the Monkey, Horse, and Rooster. But among the 2025 delegates crowned in the major national competitions, only one titleholder falls in the category — Dia Mate who is currently in Bolivia for the ongoing Reina Hispanoamericana pageant.

Mate was born in the Year of the Horse, and is trying to score the Philippines’ second victory in the Latin-dominated international pageant, and duplicate the feat recorded by Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez in 2017.

Rats, Dragons, and Snakes may also look forward to great luck in 2025. And while there are no Rat-born queens from major national competitions in line for global tilts this year, there are four others who may enjoy good fortune.

Reigning Miss World Philippines Krishnah Gravidez may have seen herself embroiled in controversy last year, but she better pray that her international competition pushes through this year to be able to enjoy the favorable forecast for 2025 for Dragon-born people like she is.

Reigning Binibining Pilipinas-International Myrna Esguerra, The Miss Philippines-Supranational Tarah Valencia, and The Miss Philippines-Eco International Alexie Mae Brooks are all set to compete this year, and all three of them happen to be born in the Year of the Snake

The Miss Philippines-Charm Cyrille Payumo has found herself under the spotlight recently after netizens questioned her decision to wear Catriona Gray’s Mak Tumang farewell walk gown when she relinquished her provincial title.

That may have been an early prelude already to the challenging 2025 that Allen is foreseeing for people born in the Year of the Tiger like Payumo is.

Reigning Universal Woman Philippines Sophia Bianca Santos and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Environment International Arianna Pantaleon are both born in the Year of the Goat, who may also experience a rough 2025.

Both Santos and Pantaleon are aiming to give the Philippines a second consecutive win in their respective international competitions’ third editions scheduled this year.

Allen shared several pieces of advice for the ladies who will compete in 2025 pageants. “Do not be too trusting,” she cautioned, and told them to open up only to the most trusted people in their lives.

“Number two is revealing the outfit, what you’re gonna be wearing, what’s the color. Because the most uncomfortable way when a contestant shows up and you divulge that ‘I’m gonna be wearing the color green,’ for example. And then all of a sudden it’s been copied by someone else. So try to be really cautious,” she said.

Allen also advised the ladies to “act like the snake” and be quiet. “And remember, snakes are emotion less. They don’t have the ability for empathy. The most reliable experience is change,” she added.
