South Korean actor and 2PM member Taecyeon denied proposing to his non-showbiz girlfriend while clarifying that photos taken during their Paris trip were just a celebration of the latter’s birthday.
Taecyeon and his girlfriend were hounded with engagement speculations after the actor-rapper was spotted kneeling with a ring in front of the latter, as seen in now-deleted photos by one @thebestphotoparis on Instagram.
The couple was also captured smiling affectionately at each other, while another photo showed a closer look at a silver ring with a hexagon-cut diamond.
While the photos were uploaded sometime in April 2024, they only caught the attention of netizens 10 months later.
This led to the “Vincenzo” star addressing the photos in a statement through his agency 51K on Wednesday, February 5, denying that it “wasn’t part of a marriage proposal.”
“Those photos were not taken as part of a marriage proposal. The photos, which were taken last year to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday, were unfortunately leaked and spread across online communities,” 51K’s statement read, per a Soompi translation.
Despite this, Taecyeon and his girlfriend are still going strong although they don’t have plans to tie the knot anytime soon.
“[Taecyeon] is continuing to have a good relationship with his girlfriend, as he always has. While we believe that he may get married someday when the timing is right, there are no immediate plans for marriage at this time,” 51K said.
The rapper-actor confirmed that he was in a relationship with a non-celebrity in June 2020, although he remained mum on the details of her identity and how they started dating as she wasn’t a public figure.
Taecyeon started his entertainment career as a contestant in the survival show “Hot Blood Men” in 2008, until he eventually debuted as a member of 2PM in September of the same year.
He made his acting debut in the 2010 K-drama “Cinderella’s Sister,” and is best known for his lead roles in “Bring it On, Ghost,” “Save Me,” “Vincenzo,” and “Heartbeat.”
